I know he criticized Obama's plans during the election - from the left. But what about the much vaunted 'team of rivals'? I don't claim to understand the economy - but this guy certainly does. And every time he dissects Geithner and Summers' plans to fix things, not only does he make sense, but I KNOW he's coming from a perspective I agree with - people first. And he can communicate, both in prent and in person, like few others.
Maybe some of you out there know - was didn't he get it in the first place?! Either way, the man's a Nobel Prize winner, and the real economist Obama needs. Geithner and Summers helped MAKE this mess.
If the bank bailout being announced this week is as bad as Krugman says, I say we start a public campaign - dump Geithner, bring on Krugman!!
He seems to be the only person up to the job. And he's a progressive in line with the change people voted for when they elected Obama!
(update below the fold. . . )
UPDATE: I've gotta say, I'm a bit surprised by some of the arguments in the comments. I don't buy it that Geithner has all this magical knowledge that he just hasn't revealed yet, or that Krugman is an academic/gadfly and not equipped to run these sorts of things. We need a visionary, not a manager, someone who can translate between the managers and Obama, who can find novel ways to execute Obama's overall goals without being taken in by the managers, many of whom are serving the interests of the bankers. I also don't think that the fact that Geithner hasn't had a chance yet is that important - we're in a crisis, and yes, he should be allowed to fail one more time, but after that, cut the losses. And as many of you pointed out, he's said he doesn't want it. But if the President asked him to do it for the benefit of his country, I doubt he'd say no . . .
