As much as we Democrats hate to admit it, very often, politics is about capturing a way to hit the low-information voter who doesn't consume political info like we do. So often I wonder why it is the republicans sound like IDIOTS when talking on MSM shows, only to realize that someone I know tuned in for two seconds, cause I hear them repeat to me a totally decontextualized talking point from someone like Pat Buchanan.
That's cause Repubs on MSM aren't talking to the other talking heads, they're trying to get to the low info voter by sheer repetition. Repubs are great at finding that one metaphor, or image, that captures an already existing worry people have about someone, then running in into the ground till it sticks. For example, We saw it bring down Howard Dean with 'the scream.'
Well, two can play at that game. And without being nasty, either. Things like this are 'memes,' they need to get critical mass till they start living a life of their own.
John McSame. Repeat over and over.
